Sturgeon Full Moon photographed on 10 August 2025.
The Sturgeon Moon is the traditional name for the full moon in August. It was given by the indigenous peoples of North America: at this time of year, it was particularly good for catching large sturgeon, so the moon is associated with abundance and fishing bounty. The August moon also has names such as “green corn” or “grain,” emphasizing the ripening season and the end of summer.
